As a result of advancing age, there may be a significant amount of loose skin causing the dreaded bat wing appearance and leading to poor body image and self-esteem. The arm lift may be the best solution to this problem by reducing excess sagging skin with localized fat pockets and tightening the underlying supportive tissue. This procedure has grown in popularity over the last decade from just over 300 in 2010 to almost 16,000 in 2013.

Should I Have an Arm Lift?

Many men and women have “saggy” upper arms that are resistant to diet or toning exercises precluding them from feeling confident in a tightly fitted clothing. Brachioplasty is a very safe option to reduce the skin excess of the arm, feel better self-image and more confidence with better self-image presentation, and wear short sleeves without feeling insecure.

“By taking a risk and making a change, you will certainly get your confidence back! With confidence you have won before you have started!” Svetlana M. Danovich.

An incision is made under your arm lengthwise from elbow to armpit in order to remove excess hanging skin and fat. After that, the underlying supportive tissue is tightened and reshaped using internal dissolvable sutures to create the new smooth contour of the arm. When the incision is closed, the arm is then placed into a compression sleeve to minimize swelling and promote healing. The arm lift surgery, brachioplasty, takes approximately 3-3.5 hours from start to finish. You will see results immediately, and the scar will fade to some extent over the next 9 to 12 months.

Q: What is the best non-surgical treatment option for sagging underarm skin?
A: In my opinion, the most effective non-surgical improvement of loose arm skin is ThermiTight, which is a radio-frequency treatment that gives you a dramatic improvement over few months.
Q: What is downtime of brachioplasty?
A: The typical downtime is 2 weeks. You will have a compressive garment helping to decrease your swelling and further contour your arm for 4 to 6 weeks. You should also refrain from stretching the arms, or any heavy lifting/exercise for 6 weeks.
Q: Will surgical tightening of the Arm leave severe scars?
A: An arm lift procedure dramatically improves your arm contour. The procedure will leave a visible scar on the inner arm. Most patients notice that their scars are significantly flatter and lighter nine to twelve months after surgery.
