About the procedure
What should I Know About EuroThreads®?

EuroThreads® are synthetic absorbable surgical sutures that have been used for decades in various surgical specialties. This is one of the safest materials for implantation. The skin fully absorbs them within 4 to 6 months and leaves no scar tissue. The foreign body stimulates the synthesis of collagen for about 8 months and the created structure of the skin will hold for approximately the next 16 months.

Why should I opt for EuroThreads®?

Resorbable threads offer an alternative to facelift surgery. Significantly less invasive than surgical intervention, thread lifting gives a gentle pull on the skin through strategically placed threads, under the surface. These threads, when tightened, will give an instant lift to the targeted area. They differ from the contour thread used previously, as they are absorbed and dissolved over time. Resorbable threads work on two fronts: first, providing a physical mechanism for skin lifting and, secondly, stimulating the natural production of collagen. Collagen helps to thicken and smooth the skin, helps reduce wrinkles, fine lines and other imperfections.

Risks

Side effects of threading are rare, but not impossible. Before your treatment, your medical history will be reviewed to make sure you are not at high risk of complications.

Threading is not suitable for people who:

  • have allergic reactions to foreign matter in the body
  • areprone to keloid scarring, or bleeding.

Those with thin or very sensitive skin should also avoid threading. Thinner skin may allow the threads to be visible , which can affect results for a few months.

There may be swelling, bruising and slight discomfort, as well as asymmetric results in the treatment area. Skin defects are most often self-corrected within a few weeks.

In most cases, the discomfort will be minimal and temporary. You can reduce the risk of these complications by carefully following all instructions before and after surgery provided by your doctor. You can reduce the risk of nerve damage and other serious complications by choosing to work with a highly qualified and experienced doctor – Svetlana M. Danovich MD, PhD, FACS.

Q&A / QUESTIONS AND SD ANSWERS

Q: What are EuroThreads®?
A: EuroThreads® is a FDA-approved thread treatment for skin rejuvenation. They can be used to reduce the appearance of lines, and wrinkles on the face, neck and body skin during a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment. The threads promote your body's natural collagen production, creating a more youthful appearance.
Q: Am I a Candidate for EuroThreads®?
A: Resorbable threads are ideal for men and women who are unhappy with sagging face, and wrinkles, but are not interested in a surgical procedure. As a long-term alternative to dermal fillers and injections, threading serves to both lift and smooth the skin and stimulate the production of collagen for more attractive contours.

Made from safe and absorbable materials, the thread can be used in conjunction with other skincare services, but often gives the desired results in itself. The best way to find out if you are a good candidate for this procedure is to set up a private and informative consult in one of our New York office locations. During this visit, we can evaluate your skin, consider all of your options and help you determine if threading or other skin tightening services are best for your needs.
Q: What are the risks and complications of Threading procedures?
A: The side effects of threading are rare, but not impossible. Before starting treatment, we will check your medical history to make sure that you do not have an increased risk of complications.
Threading is not suitable for people who have allergic reactions to foreign substances in the body. Men and women prone to keloid scars, excessive bleeding may also need to avoid threading. Those with thin or very sensitive skin may also wish to avoid threading. Thinner skin can allow the threads to be visible, which can affect the results for several months.

Swelling, and slight discomfort are possible, Asymmetric results, may occur in the treatment area, but most often self-correct in several weeks.

In most cases, edema and discomfort will be minimal and temporary. You can reduce the risk of these complications by carefully following all pre- and postoperative instructions provided by your doctor. You can reduce the risk of damage to nerves and other serious complications by contacting using only a highly qualified and experienced doctor. We care about the comfort of our patients and use only those methods that have proven their safety and effectiveness in order to ensure complete satisfaction.
Q: What Can I Expect From This Procedure?
A: EuroThreads® are used to create a network or grid-like structure under the skin. They are introduced during a non-surgical, minimally invasive, outpatient procedure in the comfort of our Manhattan or Great Neck office. The threads themselves are similar to those used for cardiovascular procedures, and they are approved by the FDA for aesthetic procedures. They are made from biodegradable sutures, and they add support under the skin.
The way the threads interact with your bodily systems enhances the natural collagen and elastin production processes, which helps to enhance your appearance and reduce the appearance of frustrating wrinkles and folds. The effect will be apparent in about 4-6 weeks and the collagen production will continue until about 8 weeks. Results will last for approximately 16 months beyond that.
Q: How Long Has Thread Lifting Been Around?
A: Originally, contour threads were approved by the FDA in early 2006, which was quickly canceled because of the nature of the thread permanence. These strands were not “absorbable” and could not be removed after they were inserted. EuroThread® uses a biodegradable suture that has been approved by the FDA for decades in cardiovascular surgery. In 2015, the FDA approved a similar suture for aesthetic procedures. The filament lifting can be used to treat the face, neck and body.
Q: What Does PDO and PLLA Mean?
A: PDO, Polydioxanone, a colorless, crystalline, biodegradable polymer used to coat the suture. PLLA, Poly Lactic acid, colorless, crystalline, biodegradable polymer used to coat the suture.
Q: How Does EuroThread® Work?
A: The thread is attached to a single needle or cannula and is individually inserted into the dermis and left in place. Depending on the type of thread, (smooth, tangled or prickly) the thread will either promote collagen production or will pull in a direction to lift and restore a youthful appearance.
