Eyelid Surgery / Blepharoplasty
Dr. Danovich – Cosmetic Surgical Artist – performs the best Blepharoplasty in NYC to recreate more youthful appearance by removing and tightening excess fat and skin of upper and lower eyelid.
Beauty attracts the eyes! Because your eyes are always honest, they will always be telling the truth about you – your age does not have to be one of them. Droopy eyelids and pronounced bags under eyes are common signs of aging and may cause you to look much older than you are.
Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a procedure that corrects overhanging upper eyelids and heavy bags under the eyes by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle from the area.
The result of a cosmetic eyelid lift is a more youthful and well-rested appearance in the most natural way possible. For many people, these results are durable and long lasting. It is uncommon for excess fat and skin to reappear until many years later; but if a small amount of excess skin or fat develops after the passage of time, then it can be easily corrected
Candidates for eyelid surgery include men and women, usually over the age of 40, with heavy/droopy upper eyelids and/or puffy bags below the eyes. The surgery can stop a tired appearance around the eyes in their early to mid-30s.
How should I prepare for eyelid surgery?
In preparation for your eyelid surgery, you will be instructed to avoid smoking, and discontinue use of blood thinning medications such as aspirin, Advil®/ Aleve® or ibuprofen for 7 days before and after procedure.
How long does eyelid surgery take?
The eyelid surgery(blepharoplasty) takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete, depending on the targeted areas.
Cosmetic eyelid surgery is commonly performed at our ambulatory surgical facility and takes under 2 hours. It may be combined with other procedures such as a brow lift and/or facelift for creative restoration of divine proportions.
For the upper eyelid, an incision is strategically made in the curved eyelid crease of the upper eyelid to make sure that the scar will be well hidden when it heals.
Lower eyelid surgery is the repositioning of fat and tightening of the skin without any external scar. This technique is called transconjunctival blepharoplasty utilizing an incision within the internal portion of the lower eyelid to correct the bagginess under eyes.
You will be advised to keep your head elevated for several days and to use cold compresses to reduce swelling and bruising. There will be very minimal pain following eyelid surgery, but pain medication will be prescribed by your eyelid surgeon.
Some patients experience tearing and irritation for the first few days after surgery; eye ointment may be prescribed for nighttime and eye drops for daytime use until the resolution of symptoms.
The stitches are removed on 5th day following eyelid surgery. You may then resume wearing makeup and using contact lenses. The incisions may remain pink for a short period after surgery, and they usually fade and become inconspicuous in 4-6 weeks.
Most patients should feel comfortable enough to return to work and social activities after a week.
Can I exercise after eyelid surgery?
You will be advised to avoid physical activity for 7 to 10 days following surgery to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding. Within 2-3 weeks, you can resume the strenuous physical exercise at the fitness center.
Fortunately, an eyelid surgery(blepharoplasty) is generally safe and effective. The risk of complications from eyelid surgery includes bleeding, bruising, asymmetry, infection, and unfavorable scarring.
Patients experiencing any concerning symptoms are advised to call Dr. Danovich’s cell phone promptly.
Eyelid surgery results are permanent*; however, you may notice a relaxing of the skin around the eyes in the future as part of the natural aging process.
