About the Procedure
What is the ThermiVa® System?

ThermiVa® is a unipolar radiofrequency device with FDA clearance that is able to slowly heat tissues to targeted temperatures and then maintain the temperatures there to obtain the vaginal tissue contraction. RF science and use on vulvovaginal tissues is a safe and highly effective way to treat vulvovaginal issues.

Is This Treatment Right for Me?

The ThermiVa® is the best option not only for women after childbirth, but also for individuals who have reached middle age and overstretched vaginal walls and/or lack of lubrication can preclude them from achieving their desired level of sexual satisfaction. "Never be afraid to do the things that make you feel better", says Dr. Danovich.

How is the ThermiVa Done

The ThermiVA® is a 20-25 minute procedure which requires no anesthetic and has virtually NO downtime. My patients describe this intervention as a most exciting, well tolerated, and completely painless event.  I perform this procedure on an examination chair, with your feet in a comfortable frog-leg position. The procedure begins with the insertion of a smooth, generously lubricated, and naturally curved probe into your vagina. This delivers  radiofrequency energy to tighten the vaginal walls, labia minora (small lips), your labia majora (larger, outer lips), and the tissues around the urethra. The ThermiVA® significantly activates the nerves of the vaginal walls to stimulate the production of mucous in order to lubricate the vagina during intimacy. Lastly, the radio frequency energy also has a tremendous effect on the nerves of the clitoris to facilitate a climax point and the enjoyment of a sexual encounter overall. At the end of the procedure, the probe is gently withdrawn  and you may  even have intercourse when you get home if you choose to. No special care is needed after that but with this treatment your life can be changed completely! “Enhance your life with intelligent and knowledgeable decisions which will help you to make your own bright future”, says Svetlana M. Danovich MD, PhD, FACS.

Q: How does ThermiVa® work

A: ThermiVa® works by releasing radio frequency energy to the tissues. The internal and external vaginal tissues are heated up to a controlled temperature which causes skin tightening without any damage. Radiofrequency treatments have long been used for muscle and tissue healing by promoting new collagen production which leads to softer, tighter tissues, appreciable decrease in size of the labia and also increased sensitivity and lubrication after the procedure. Ladies with stress incontinence have seen significant improvement in their symptoms.

Q: Who is a good candidate for ThermiVa®?

A: Most women are good candidates for ThermiVa®. Those individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their labia minora, labia majora or clitoral hood can see significant improvement with ThermiVa® treatments. The laxity in these tissues can be due to childbirth, aging, hormonal changes or genetics. Internal improvements can help with vaginal laxity, decreased lubrication and decreased sensitivity.

Q: When do I see the results?

A: Some patients notice a difference even immediately following one treatment. The maximum effectiveness will be noticed three months after a series of 3 procedures have been completed. Maintenance treatments are recommended at about 8-12 months.

Q: Is it safe?

A: ThermiVa® is a safe, in-office treatment that utilizes radio frequency (RF) energy to gently heat the internal and external vaginal tissues. RF energy stimulates collagen production and blood flow to the vaginal tissues. The treatment tip has a built-in thermometer enabling continuous temperature control for patient comfort. Patients are pain free during the procedure and suffer virtually no downtime.

Q: How long do results last?

A: ThermiVa® results will vary from patient to patient, depending upon age, health and medical condition. In most patients, results are maximized after three treatments and an annual touchup is recommended.
